On line availability of Significant Permit Revision for Navajo Mine, Navajo Reservation, New Mexico

OSM’s Program Support Division has received a significant revision on Indian lands permitted under our permanent program performance standards from BHP Navajo Coal Company (BNCC) for Navajo Mine. The application proposes to add new mine support facilities and infrastructure including an industrial facility, a coal storage and blending facility and an overland conveyor system in Area IV North of the BNCC lease. The facilities will be used in conjunction with the proposed Desert Rock Energy Project (DREP).

NEW  On-line availability of the Informal Conference transcript of the Proposed Significant Revision of the Navajo Mine, Navajo Reservation, New Mexico

On June 25, 2008, OSM’s Program Support Division held an informal conference at the Burnham Chapter House (Tiis Tsoh Sikaad) to hear comments on BHP Navajo Coal Company’s (BNCC) application for a significant revision to the Navajo Mine Permit. The application proposes to add new support facilities and infrastructure, including an industrial facility, a coal storage and blending facility, and an overland conveyor system in Area IV North of the BNCC lease. The facilities will be used in conjunction with the proposed Desert Rock Energy Project.

All comments on this transcript must be received at the Western Region of the Office of Surface Mining and Reclamation and Enforcement, attention Brenda Steele at "bsteele@osmre.gov, fax 303-293-5032, or P.O. Box 46667, Denver, CO 80201-6667 by September 17, 2008, allowing 2 full weeks for comment. Comments received after that date will not be considered.
